Plant Stalk Mezuzot
Winter is passing and soon we will see the start of spring. Now is an excellent time to locate plant stalks to use in making another type of
natural mezuzot holder for your home.
The next time you take a drive in the country or a walk through an open field, keep your eyes open for tall brown plant stalks, all that remains of last summer's growth. Mullein, yucca, and Japanese Knotwood stalks work extremely well. Cut a few stalks and take them home with you where you can cut them into 3-6 inch lengths. Use a metal hanger to poke/scrape out the inner fiber, leaving only the hard outside shell.
That's all there is to it.
You now have a perfect holder for a mezuzah scroll. You can decorate the holder by painting it, scraping or cutting designs into it, covering it with gold foil, coating with a layer of adhesive and sprinkling colored sparkles on it, etc.
