The Cedar Trees

Cedar trees are singled out from all of the other trees mentioned in the Torah and called the "trees of the Lord" (Psalm 104:16). These magnificent trees were used in the construction of the First and Second Temples.  So magnificent are these trees that the Talmud (Gittin 57a) compares great sages to cedar trees.  And, it was a custom in the time of Talmud for parents to plant a cedar tree at the birth of a boy (cypress or pine for a girl). When the children would get married, limbs would be trimmed from the tree to be use in the making of the bridal canopy (chuppah).

The next time you pass a cedar tree, give thanks for all that it has done for you ancestors.
